We've outlined below the major features and simple steps involved in setting up a template using Macromedia Dreamweaver. The same applies for both the regular and ecommerce enabled versions.

Dreamweaver templates

Defining the site
This is the first step once you've downloaded your template. In Dreamweaver go to Site>New Site - give your web site a name and browse to where you downloaded the files. You should then get your site listing and you're ready to make changes to the main template.

Dreamweaver templates

.dwt files
This is where all your global changes are made, typically for headers, footers, navigation and news sections. The file you need to edit is in the Templates folder, make a change to the .dwt file and you are prompted to update all the pages that use the template, thus making site-wide changes with a click.

Editable regions
These are the sections on each individual page where you can personalize your page content. The editable regions are defined in the .dwt file - these can be modified by highlighting the part of a page you want to make editable and choosing Insert>Template Objects>Editable Region.

Frontpage template

Library items (.lbi)
Library items are used like include files and are handy when you have repeated content on several pages. Like .dwt files, once you make a change to a library item you are prompted to update all the pages that are linked to it on your site.

Requirements

For the ASP templates a Windows server capable of running a Microsoft Access database.
